Managing generation and T&D assets for improved reliability has become an increasingly critical issue – driven by pressure to improve service, regulatory demands, continuously aging assets, and the pressure to reduce costs.
The challenge is maximizing
use and performance of energy infrastructure assets while also ensuring quality
and reliability. Successful asset management
requires identifying appropriate targets and making resource and equipment
decisions based on in-depth analysis and evaluation of asset-level data. And
asset-level decisions need to be made in alignment with corporate business
objectives -- balancing performance, cost, and risk.
Comprehensive insight into
balancing technical and business challenges
Effective asset management
requires a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and the business
challenges utilities face.
DNV KEMA approaches asset
management from both a business and technical perspective that links corporate
objectives and utilities' operational objectives with customer expectations,
regulatory requirements, financial objectives and other stakeholder
goals.
Our systematic consulting
methodology includes:
-
developing an in-depth understanding of client business goals and asset base
-
analyzing and ranking alternative measures
-
developing an implementation plan to achieve maximum benefits from your existing infrastructure components and overall system.

Specifications for rotating
electrical machines
As rotating electrical machines
such as generators and motors are devices that transform mechanical power into
electrical power and vice-versa, they play a fundamental role in asset
management. DNV KEMA has composed two standardized specifications for rotating
electrical machines to be used in power stations, the S13/S14 and S17
specifications. The S13/S14 DNV KEMA
specifications are specifically for hydrogen, liquid and air-cooled, synchronous
a.c. generators with rated voltage 5 kV and above, whilst the S17 DNV KEMA
specifications are designed for electric motors.
